Physical properties: white powder, transparent, 0.3 ~ 6mm needles density 4.01, melting point 1152 ℃. Boiling point 2230 ℃. Insoluble in water, insoluble in hydrochloric acid, nitric acid and sulfuric acid, but can be dissolved in perchloric acid. There are hygroscopic in the air, more stable.
Chemical properties: the ammonium fluoride NH4F YF3 generate an insoluble complex salt?.
Uses: used in light-emitting materials, phosphors. Optical glass, producing a rare earth crystal laser materials, conversion luminescent material, fluoride glass optical fiber and fluoride glass. Carbon electrode arc lamp illumination source for manufacturing. Electrolytic preparation of metal yttrium raw materials.
