Preparation of Calcium Oxide CaO
Calcium Oxide CaO has other names such as: Quicklime, Burnt Lime, Roasted Lime.
Preparation of Calcium Oxide CaO
Materials containing calcium carbonate (CaCO3), such as shells and marble, can be thermally decomposed in a hot oven to form Calcium Oxide CaO.
Quicklime is made through a process called calcination. The chemicals in this method chemically decompose at high temperatures while maintaining temperatures below the melting point.
The average heat of calcined calcium carbonate is between 1070-1270°C. A typical setup for these reactions is a rotary furnace; the end products and results are carbon dioxide and quicklime. A process like this releases heat and is reversible as it goes.
